A Past Life's Unfinished Business Could Be Running Your Life

Within seconds of hearing one single word, my client had an entire story playing in her mind. It didn't take effort. It just wrote itself.
It also reinforced something brand new I had just learned about past life healing. 🙂 (A friend always calls me an "energy healing nerd". I won't deny it...I love learning new tidbits and then sharing them!)
In this post, I'll walk you through a recent session with a client. You'll learn that past life events come in two different “flavours”, how an old incarnation can hand its unfinished business down to you, and how to tell when a belief has truly let go.
If you'd like help with your own version of this, you can book a session here. Now, the story!
What is “unfinished business” from a past life?
When an old incarnation didn’t finish processing its experience, its beliefs keep carrying into future lifetimes.
Until recently, I had only ever found one kind of past life problem.
In that first kind, the life event itself was active, often impinging on a client’s life in the form of a recurring dream. It was holding trauma that needed healing. So we explored the event, did the healing work to process it, released the old emotions, and let it go.
Lately, I've found something completely different. And honestly? It's been really cool.
With this second kind, the event isn't the problem. The incarnation is. The version of you that lived through that experience left it with unfinished business. That version is still around, carrying beliefs from that lifetime and passing them along through your later incarnations like a family heirloom nobody asked for.
Since I learned this, I've worked with a whole bunch of clients on it. Each time, my job is to figure out what was left unresolved from that previous lifetime. Once we find it, healing it is very, very easy. Which brings me to my story.
How Does a Belief Like "The World Doesn't Care" Show Up in Daily Life?
A subconscious belief acts like a broadcast: whatever you carry, you notice everywhere you look. For my client, it showed up as depression and narcissism around her.
A recent client came to me with a pattern we identified as “depression and narcissism”. How this translated into her daily life was that she felt that no matter where she looked, people were only in it for themselves.
As we kept working, we found the belief underneath it all. The phrase: "The world doesn't care."
Those words were trapped in her subconscious, broadcasting like a radio signal, so as per the Law of Attraction, this is why she experienced it everywhere. Wherever she looked, it seemed to her that the world didn't care. It made complete sense.
Then came the twist. The belief had more than one root.
Can You Inherit a Belief From Your Mother Before You're Born?
Yes. A baby can pick up a mother's beliefs in the womb, and my client carried her mom's pregnancy experience as if it were her own.
The first root wasn't even hers. It was her mom's.
During her mom's pregnancy with her, things were hard. Mom was new to the country. She didn't have a big network. She was pregnant with very few supports available to her. And over and over, she bumped up against the same feeling: the world doesn't care.
My client, as a fetus, picked it up. Then she carried it into her life and saw it reflected back everywhere she went.
Can you imagine inheriting a belief before you've even taken your first breath? It happens far more than you might think!
If you suspect a belief you carry came from a parent, that's worth looking into. You can also book a free discovery call and we can chat about it.
So we healed that first. I've shared this kind of vicarious life event before. The client imagines themself in the other person's shoes, and as we heal it, her memory of what that person experienced gets lighter and lighter until it's gone. Usually, that one key event is all it takes.
Not this time.
How Do You Know When a Pattern Has More Than One Root?
Test the belief out loud. If the phrase still carries even a little charge after a healing, there's another root to find.
After we cleared it, I asked her to repeat the phrase "the world doesn't care." It felt better, but not completely gone. Something was still hanging on.
I got directed to a previous incarnation. This is where I got to test my new approach.
How Do You Find a Past Life With Unfinished Business?
Pull out a few clues, like how many incarnations back and what age, then use an archetype word and see what story arises in the client's mind.
I asked for just a couple of clues and then watched what popped into her mind.
The clues were simple. It was three incarnations back, and she had been 28 years old.
Then I went to my list of archetypes.
If you're not familiar, an archetype is a broad-strokes character type. Think about stories. Every story has a main theme and characters who fit certain moulds, like the hero, the villain or the fool. An archetype gives your mind a doorway into the story.
The word I got for her was seducer.
Within seconds, a whole story came up. No effort, no digging.
She saw that she had been pushed aside in that life. She could see herself as a dominatrix or some other tough-as-nails woman in the sex trade. Because of the situation and the way things unfolded, she took on the belief "Nobody is going to take care of me, so I need to take care of myself."
Now think about that. If that was how you lived your entire life, you'd end it feeling like the world doesn't care! That was the key takeaway that lifetime left behind.
The earlier incarnation never got to finish processing it, and that belief continued through into this lifetime. Isn’t that wild! The story made sense, and completely fit what we were working on.
And nobody was as surprised as my client when the entire scenario just popped into her head seconds after I gave her the clues and asked her to see what came up! (Truth be told, I didn’t expect it to be that easy either.)
Past life incarnations are only one type of trapped energy type that may need to be addressed to help us move forward. If you're curious to learn about other energy healing techniques, my latest book, The NO NONSENSE Guide to Pendulum Healing is a great place to start.
How Fast Can Unfinished Business From a Past Life Be Released?
It can be very fast. That incarnation mostly needs to be acknowledged, and then the belief lets go, often in one short, simple step.
This is the really fun part.
Once we identified it, the incarnation mostly just needed to be acknowledged. That's it. We acknowledged what the previous incarnation went through that created the belief, and then asked Divine to heal and dissolve the life event. That’s it.
It was a simple, straightforward and really quick process.
Then came the moment of truth. I asked my client to repeat the phrase again: "The world doesn't care."
And there was no energy in it at all.
Nothing. Flat. Gone.
She said the words, and she didn’t feel a thing. It was done. It was healed. It was so cool!
That's how I know a belief has been fully released. I have the client repeat the old phrase, and we check to see whether any charge remains. With the first root, a bit of energy was still stuck. After the second, it was gone.
What comes after letting go?
After the old belief clears, anchor a new one. For this client it was "there is enough for everyone."
When we remove a belief, more often than not we want to replace the belief with something better.
So we kept going with the session and anchored in a new belief. The phrase we chose was: "There is enough for everyone."
By the time we finished, she felt so much more positive. Her new belief felt like the truth for her.
Think about the difference between the two phrases. "The world doesn't care" makes it feel like every stranger is a threat. "There is enough for everyone" means any stranger could be a friend.
Same world. Completely different experience.
If this story resonated with you and you'd like to explore what you're carrying, I'd love to hear from you. You can book a session or set up a discovery call to see if ART is a good fit for you.
What is the difference between a past life with trauma and a past life with unfinished business?
In a trauma-holding past life, the event itself is stuck and needs to be explored and processed so the old emotions can release. In an unfinished-business past life, the incarnation that lived through it is still carrying a belief forward, and mostly needs to be acknowledged before it lets go.
Can you inherit beliefs from your mother during pregnancy?
In my work, yes. A baby can pick up a mother's emotional experience in the womb, such as feeling unsupported or alone, and then carry it as a belief into adult life. Healing that inherited experience often makes the belief feel much lighter.
How do you know if a limiting belief still has energy in it?
Say the belief out loud and notice how it feels. If there's still a charge, even a small one, there's more to release. When a phrase feels completely flat and neutral, the belief has let go.
Why do I keep seeing the same negative pattern everywhere I go?
A belief stored in your subconscious works like a broadcast, so you notice evidence for it everywhere. If you carry "the world doesn't care," you will see people who seem to only look out for themselves. Release the belief and what you notice starts to change.
What is the Accelerated Release Technique (ART)?
ART is the method I created to find and release the subconscious beliefs and old emotions behind stubborn patterns. We identify the root, which might come from this lifetime, a parent's experience or a past incarnation, (among other possible causes) and then let it go. Afterward, we anchor in a new, supportive belief.
